Games Barn & Garden

Burgate Farmhouse self catering holiday cottages is accessed through lovely old gates & a long gravel drive with flower beds on either side. There is a large gravel area in front of the house so there is plenty of parking for all.

The Garden

The pretty garden area is approximately half an acre with a large lawn on either side of the driveway. There is a lovely ornamental wishing well with a thatched roof (there is no water so it is perfectly safe for children).

There is a patio area underneath the wisteria (which is in full bloom in mid May). The greenery provides a lovely shady spot to sit in the summer.

At the far end of the garden, nestling under a big fir tree, there is a summerhouse with plenty of garden furniture.

There is a separate lawn with a hedge on 1 side & a tall wall on the other. It has a football net & is ideal for ball games as there are virtually no flowers nearby.

There are 2 swings (1 normal & 1 for a baby) & a toddler slide.

At the back of Little Thatch, there is a small lawn area, with the rest of the space gravelled. There is a lovely old red ‘phone box (no longer in use). There is a large side gate which can be closed to make this area totally secure for dogs for anyone staying in Little Thatch. There are 2 dog ‘loos’ in the garden, along with the necessary scoops.

There is an outside laundry room with a washing machine and tumble drier. A very small charge is made per load (which includes liquid & fabric softener). A sink & draining board in this room with hot & cold water means it is useful for cleaning muddy boots etc after a walk. There is an indoor clothes line & also an outside rotary dryer for clothes. There is also a toilet inside the laundry room.

There are 2 BBQ’s (on wheels) which can be borrowed (all charcoal, firelighters, matches, tongs are supplied).

There is an outside garden hose (useful for cleaning mountain bikes).
Mountain bikes can be stored in the Games Barn when you don’t need them (bring your own locks).

The Games Room

The Games Barn is very large and has a full size skittle alley, along with a pool table, a table tennis table (with bats & balls) & a dartboard (with basic darts). There are several tables & lots of chairs inside. There are also all sorts of children’s toys & larger ‘coupe car’ type toys to sit on & ride etc.

The Games Barn is a great place for wet days or somewhere to spend your evenings. It is also good for larger gatherings (eg if you book both cottages & then want to invite a few additional friends/family to join you for a small party/celebration).

NB – The Games Barn is not heated as such. There are 2 Calor gas heaters which can be used when the weather is cold but you would probably need a warm jacket & a ‘mug of something warm in the winter'.
